Interfacing 7 Segment display

Description: A seven segment display consists of seven LEDs arranged in the form of a squarish '8' slightly inclined to the right and a single LED as the dot character.

Different characters can be displayed by selectively glowing the required LED segments.

Seven segments are of two types
1 Common Cathode
2 Common Anode

In common cathode type the cathode of  all LED  are fixed together to a single terminal which is called as 'com' and the cathode of all the LEDs are left alone as individual pins labelled as a,b,c,d,e,f,g,h (or dot).

seven segment displays are used to indicate numerical information . Seven segments can range display digits from 0 to 9 and even can display few characters like

A,B,C,D,E,FG etc

These are very popular and have many more applications.
